So I did it. I found a great deal on a sewing machine online and ordered it.
Basically it was a $500 sewing machine only used once that I won on eBay for $150.
I eagerly waited a week for it's arrival.
It has everything I wanted and more. Including the ability to stitch in 9 different languages. More of a sewing machine then I ever imagined, but the possibilities were endless. I haven't sew anything more than a pillow, and I haven't even done that in over 10 years. But if I am going to try this whole sewing thing out, I was going to do it right.
When it finally arrived, I knew something was wrong before I even opened the box. The box was flimsy and very beaten up for it's trip from Minnesota. Literally, the seller placed the machine in an over-sized-crap-of -a-box. Threw in a few pieces of foam, a single page of newspaper crinkled up, and a piece of plastic. Wow. Thanks.
When I pulled it out, I saw that all the accessories were laying in the bottom of the box. Not even in a baggie. Little pieces just rolling around. And in the corner of the box was a small hole where I can only guess that some of the accessories fell out.
Then I inspected the machine. As I anticipated when I saw the box, the actual machine was cracked and broken. The insides were obviously bent, and the machine--useless.
I was so disappointed. So back in it's crap box it went, and I shipped it back for a refund. And instead of getting a great machine for a great price, I am out $17 for shipping it back.
Discouraged, I decided I was just going to go and buy one at the store. But Ian found me yet another not-as-good-deal-but-still-great-deal on a different machine, which he proceeded to order. This one is from a company and it is brand new in the box, so we shouldn't have the shipping issues as last time. But now I am just waiting for it to arrive. It doesn't have near the features as the last one, but is still digital like I had wanted and also threads itself which was a biggie for me. I am a little worried because it has received less than stellar reviews online. But I am just starting to think that people who sew are perfectionist and have very high expectations of a sewing machine. Having not touched a machine in 10 years besides the crap, cracked one that was shipped from me--my expectations are pretty low. As long as it sews, we will be in good shape. I am a long way from doing anything fancy and crazy--so it should be more than enough of a machine for me. And the waiting continues....
