Why am I still up? Because my child has horrible gas.
So what does this momma do about it, blog about it. Us Abbott girls are real classy-like.
Anyways, back to my child's gas. Apparently, pooping is somewhat of a big deal. A few weeks ago, my child decided not to poo because girls don't poop. After a few days, she finally went. No harm, no foul.
Well here we are again, with the non-pooping. It has been 5 days since my little one has produced a poo. Not good. SOO instead of breastfeeding, I have to pump my milk and add Karo syrup to it to encourage her to poo. So here I am, blogging and pumping...blogging and pumping.
As a result of her non-pooping, she has developed gas like you wouldn't believe. They sound like man farts. No joke. Like, if we are taking a stroll around Wal-Mart, and she let's one go--people wouldn't believe it came from a baby and not some crude mom. I mean, these things are loud. I can hear them from down the hall. And they smell....horrible.
Not to mention her tooting in her sleep. So here I am trying to cuddle her while she is sleeping--and she starts tooting on me. Let's face it, no one likes to be farted on while cuddling and/or sleeping. I guess that is love.
That's all, I just felt that I needed to share. Let's hope she produces us a poopy diaper soon, because this constipation stuff is no fun.
Here are the lessons learned from this experience:
*Supplementing with a bottle of formula now and then is rough on the baby's digestive system and is not worth the consequences.
* Pumping sucks. It doubles the time it takes to feed your child because you have to take the time to actually pump, then you have to take the time to bottle feed. When you nurse, it's all ready to go. It is just a wham-bam-thank-you-mom sorta thing.
*In addition to being spit-up on, peed on, and pooped on--you will at some point be farted on. Oh the joys of being a parent.
*And while this has nothing to do with the current topic at hand, moms are a life saver. I don't think I could have survived today without my mom's help. --I guess it's true what they say, you can't do it all.

When she was a baby one thing that helped was to do the "runner" with her. We would lay her on her back and hold her ankles and alternate pushing her knees up to her chest back and forth like she was running. We did that for a couple of minutes then hold her thighs and push both knees up to her chest. She always pushed out a ton of gas when we did it!!
Good luck!
