Our Love Story..Guest Starring: My Husband

I did not share my answers with Ian until after he told me his.  I asked the question and just typed whatever he told me. Here are the results:

Our Love Story

1. How long have you and your significant other been together?
Bre:
Married for almost 3 years (3 years in May)
Started dating (this time) in April 2006

Ian:
March of 06..so six years.

2. How did you meet? {What's your "love" story?}

Bre:

In 2003, I was a freshman in high school, and Ian was a senior.  Our high school is small.  Everyone knows everybody.  I knew Ian as the funny charming older guy who liked to flatter all the ladies.

My best friend at the time was dating his best friend.  (So cliche right?)  Most of my freshman year, I was wrapped up in some guy who never appreciated how fantastic I was and ultimately threw away his chance.  After getting dumped, I was pretty down--but one guy was able to make me smile.  Then I started to see Ian in a new light.  Our friends played match maker and gave us a slight push which resulted in Ian awkwardly asking for my phone number.  We talked on the phone and went on a few dates.  We went to prom together and had a great time, but I was still stuck on my ex at the time (silly high school girl) and broke up with him the day after prom.  It was a seriously crappy thing for me to do..but thankfully it is something we can look back on and joke about now.

Ian:
Mutual friends.
Bre:
That's it?
Ian:
What do they want a life story?
....
Breanna asked Corey to hook her up.  Corey did just that.

3. If married, how long have you been married? If not, is this the guy you hope to marry? {do tell}
Bre: Almost 3 years....
Ian:
I don't know, almost 3 years.  2 years 9 months.

4. If you are married, where did you get married at? Big or small wedding? If not, where would you like to get married? And will it be big or small?
Bre: We had a small destination wedding in Puerto Rico.   The truth is, I am not and never was a girl that sits around and day dreams about the type of flowers for my wedding.  I had no desire to 'plan' a wedding.  I just wanted to get to the marriage part.  After the engagement, I was overwhelmed and stressed by the planning details--so we decided to let someone else plan the whole thing--and just...do it.  The wedding was beautiful and every detail was perfect.  Looking back, I see that making the choice we made to get married out of town, took the opportunity away from other family and friends to share that special day with us, and for that I am sorry.  And also, we obviously didn't get to have our personal Pastor marry us.  We have a great relationship with the Pastor of our church and it would have been nice to have him be a part of our wedding.  Maybe someday we will renew vows with our Pastor...who knows.

The important part of a wedding is to share that special moment with the person you want to spend the rest of your life with.  And that was definitely accomplished.  It was an amazing opportunity and experience, and I wish we could go back and visit again soon.  Puerto Rico is gorgeous and the hotel was unreal.

Ya..that was an amazing day.....who eats KFC just a few hours before her wedding...this girl...right here.

Ian: Small, Puerto Rican wedding.

5. Do you have any nick-names that you call one another? Do share!
Bre:  Terms of endearment make me gag a little.  We really don't have any creative nick-names.  Babe, hun...pretty typical.  Sometimes goose, but I haven't heard that one in a long time.  Despite the number of people who call me 'Bre' , Ian never calls me Bre...always Breanna.

Ian: Sweetheart, hunny, baby doll, baby

6. Name 3 things you love most about your honey.
Bre:
I love how he is with Haley.  He is the most amazing Dad a woman can ask for.  He is crazy about her and would do anything for her.  He is not afraid to change a diaper, and even gets up with her in the middle of the night when he knows that is totally not his job ( I feel that is my responsibility since I am a SAHM).

I love his sense of humor.  He always knows how to make me laugh.  I can be in the worst of moods, going on a rampage, and he knows exactly what to say to break the tension.  We spend a lot of time laughing together.

I love his drive.  To be honest, I don't love that he works all the time (or use to, his schedule is much better now).  But when he is not at work, he is 100% there with his family.  He loves to work hard and provide for his family.  He is a family man and is dedicated to doing right by his family.  I love how we are mostly on the same page.  We have the very same religious views, views on how to raise a family, & moral views.  He is a good man.

Ian:
You are my better half.  You keep me in check.  You know what I need, how I need it, and when when I need it.

I love that you are a SAHM and are willing to be a SAHM.  I like that you like being a SAHM.  I love that what makes you happy is to be a great wife and mom.

I love that you have a sweet tooth just as much as I do.

7. Tell us how he proposed? Or your ideal proposal?
Bre: Fancy dinner on the plaza, walked around the plaza, then went to the park on a beautiful September evening.  But no proposal.  I was a little confused by the evening to be honest.  I knew something was coming, as we had often talked about getting engaged and married, but I thought he was maybe messing with me.  After our date, we were heading to our friends' house when he pulled over, got out of the car, went over to my side, and purposed.  He was so sweet and amazing, how could I not say yes?!

Ian: First, I bought a ring.  Then I made a reservation at the melting pot.  We had a wonderfully romantic dinner for two.   On a nice crisp evening.  Then I made the best mistake of my life.  I'm just kidding, don't put that.  We walked around the plaza a little bit.  We went for a nice evening stroll.  Then we drove around a lake.  Then I took you to the church where we planned to get married when I asked you to be my wife.  And you said I guess.  And then we hung out with friends.

8. Is he a flowers and teddy bear kind of guy for v-day, or strawberrieschampagne, and rose petals?
Bre:   Neither, he is flowers and candy kinda guy.  Peanut M&M's are my favorite and often appear on Valentine's Day.

Ian: Flowers and candy. (As in that's what he would get me)

9. Are you a sunset dinner on the beach kind of girl, or pop a movie in and relax on the couch?

Bre: I am all of the above.  Dinner, beach, followed, by a movie on the couch.  I want it all, duh.

Ian: Both

11. Tell us what you plan on doing on this Valentine's Day.

Bre: We went to Cheddar's yesterday, but I was in a terrible mood the entire day and ruined the date.  Plus Haley was a bit of a mess and I ended up having to hold her on my lap the entire time.  Today, Ian called for a re-do..so I have no idea what we are doing.

Ian: I don't know what are we planning to do on Valentine's Day?  You said we celebrated yesterday when you were in a grouchy mood...

12. Are you asking for anything this Valentine's day?

Bre: Nope

Ian: Yup.  Peanut M&M's and a 2013 Shelby GT500 in Grabber Blue.  Of course.

13. Give us one piece of advice of keeping a relationship strong and full of love.
Bre: Always trying to put the other person first.

Ian: Putting the others persons' needs above your own.

14. Show us a picture of what love means to you.
Right after we got married before going out for pizza!
Visiting my parents right before going in to have Haley.  Ian just informed me that my purple dress should be retired and never worn again.
Holding Haley for the first time
Both taking a cat nap
FINALLY catching some sleep for the first time in the hospital.  I was EXHAUSTED. and Haley WOULDN'T sleep.  Just wanted to be held and fed (imagined that, not much has changed).  So I laid her in my gown on my chest, and we both fell asleep  (I think this was almost like 24 hours after she was born, like literally, she would not sleep.

Fruit & Root Connection: Tangled Up

Certainly, I've expressed my aversion to hyper-spiritualized language before. It often feels contrived, lacking authenticity—a facade of piety. Perhaps it's projection. Maybe jealousy. Or it could stem from a sense of disillusionment with the Christian community. But every so often, amidst the noise, a truth resonates deeply. "There is a root and fruit connection between heart and behavior. People and situations do not determine our behavior; these things provide an occasion where our behavior reveals our hearts." - Instruments in the Redeemer's Hands I've been navigating through my anger, confronting myself in the mirror. What does this anger unveil about my own heart? Surely, they aren't as enraged with me. In fact, they probably don't spare me a second thought. If anything, they—as sincerely as they can muster—bemoan my status as an apostate. So pitiful. My fruit is anger. And too often, I'm tempted to point fingers elsewhere as the source of my...

Should I Stay or Should I Go

At the time, deciding to leave felt like the most agonizing part of the whole ordeal. In hindsight, a few years of prayer journals were filled with distressing agony over desiring direction and reconciliation.  So much turmoil and emotional pain all the time. But we were constantly told that was to be expected. Hard was good. Hard truths. And iron sharpening iron. But in reality, We were all enduring death by a thousand paper-cuts. In reality, it was spiritual abuse.  In July of 2022, I sat in a lawn chair in California. It felt like a million miles from home.  We had been traveling the US, and hadn’t been home in weeks. I sat there, eating my bowl of chili.  As wonderful as the trip has been, I started to miss home. In my reflections. I counted my blessings. Home was good. Except one thing, I had a sense of dread when I thought about church. My chest would go tight. And my body felt shaky. I craved Jesus. I craved worship. I craved devotion. Being in God’s creation,...

If Your Happy and You Know it Clap Your Hands....

Alright y'all, I need to post an actual blog post.  It's been awhile.I guess I have said " writers block".  Everytime I've sat down to blog, I've gotten this nasty attitude, like I just want to rant and complain.  I'm not a fan of giving a bad mood more than it deserves or letting people get on my nerves enough that it bleeds in my blog in the most passive-aggressive way possible.  So I won't go there this time.  Focusing on what I'm thankful for has been such a great practice, and has helped me avoid the above.  So here goes nothing.....I'll update a little bit on everthing I suppose.... Finally, life is beginning to slow down.I am so appreciative of the fact that the moving/settling in process is over ( only to do it all again in T minus 5 months....) In theory, there should be a big hole where our next house will be soon. For some reason I doubt that they will break ground this week, but I would be happy if they did...I'm stressed and ...
