Cheap Shoes, Round 2

Sorry, I didn't disappear..I've just been busy.

But, it's Monday, how fun is that?

Here are the highlights to what we've been up to:

Thursday was pretty mellow.  Haley and I went grocery shopping.  When Haley was first born,  I literally got stopped by every third person to admire the new little one.  It was fun, but made quick trips, long.  For some reason, I always end up blabbing with strangers.  I'm not shy I guess.  Now that Haley is getting bigger, people usually just smile and admire from a distance, which is nice because I can get my shopping done quicker.  Later, the Abbott fam enjoyed a quiet night in.  We watched "Source Code" which was a pretty good movie.

Friday night I ended up playing some sand volleyball.  I was shocked.  Let's be honest, I am not that great at sand volleyball to begin with.  My volleyball skills are mostly blocking and hitting.  Both prove to be difficult in sand because I can't get the same "ups" and the net is also higher.  But for not playing for several months, being out of shape, and having a kid; I didn't do too bad.  It was a fun night out but I missed my kid.  I guess I am one of "those" moms who get terrible separation anxiety.

Saturday I cooked and cleaned ALL day.  My mom saved my butt at one point because I had no idea what I was doing as far as cooking went and preparing hamburgers to be cooked.  Later in the afternoon, I believe Ian sensed my intense pouting I had been participating in because he was working so much last week, so he asked me on a little mini-date which totally made my day!  So Haley and I met him up at Chipotle from some delicious burritos.

Sunday we had the Beebe side of my family over for a little Beebe BBQ action.  It turned out really nice and I enjoyed the company.  Haley got the opportunity to be loved on and spoiled.

Which brings us to today.  Remember how I once blogged about how I love cheap shoes.  Well my habit strikes again.  I have been pining for a pair of Toms.  Totally outside of what I would ever consider spending for a pair of shoes.  If you're not hip with the cool kids here is an example:

We are heading to Colorado this month, and I thought something like these would be cute and comfy because I am not sure flip-flops are going to cut it.  Ian thinks they are ugly.  What does he know.

Well apparently a lot.  Especially about me and my love for cheap shoes.  We were at Target today, and he brought me over a pair of these....and I fell in love:

$15 bucks later...I am a proud owner of non-Tom shoes.  I think they are hot.  And if you don't, then you can just stop reading my blogs from now on because your lame.   Anyways, I also picked up some cute T's for like $8-$12 bucks a piece.  Target, you rock.

I'm not going to get too excited yet though.  I went shopping a few weeks ago at Gordman's.  I usually have great luck there.  And I thought I did again.  But after I wore, washed, and dried my shirts, they shrunk up like I had never seen clothes shrink before.  One shirt was literally 6 inches shorter than it was when I bought it.  Then when I read the tag, I realized it said, "hang dry" or "hand wash".  Okay, well I don't have time nor space to hang dry nor hand wash (I mean that is gotta be a joke right) every article of clothing I own. So hopefully these will not shrink up and be all weird shaped after I wash them.   Gordman's, you suck...and your right, it was sure "something unexpected" when my clothes were ruined after being washed and dried.  I guess I'll just stick to their home decor section from now on...

Until Next Time....

Well, I am a Target whore, so if we are going to be around each other, then please send me a pic of what you are wearing so I don't show up in the same thing. I am pretty sure I own most those tops. It must be a cool mom thing. :)

Fruit & Root Connection: Tangled Up

Certainly, I've expressed my aversion to hyper-spiritualized language before. It often feels contrived, lacking authenticity—a facade of piety. Perhaps it's projection. Maybe jealousy. Or it could stem from a sense of disillusionment with the Christian community. But every so often, amidst the noise, a truth resonates deeply. "There is a root and fruit connection between heart and behavior. People and situations do not determine our behavior; these things provide an occasion where our behavior reveals our hearts." - Instruments in the Redeemer's Hands I've been navigating through my anger, confronting myself in the mirror. What does this anger unveil about my own heart? Surely, they aren't as enraged with me. In fact, they probably don't spare me a second thought. If anything, they—as sincerely as they can muster—bemoan my status as an apostate. So pitiful. My fruit is anger. And too often, I'm tempted to point fingers elsewhere as the source of my...

Should I Stay or Should I Go

At the time, deciding to leave felt like the most agonizing part of the whole ordeal. In hindsight, a few years of prayer journals were filled with distressing agony over desiring direction and reconciliation.  So much turmoil and emotional pain all the time. But we were constantly told that was to be expected. Hard was good. Hard truths. And iron sharpening iron. But in reality, We were all enduring death by a thousand paper-cuts. In reality, it was spiritual abuse.  In July of 2022, I sat in a lawn chair in California. It felt like a million miles from home.  We had been traveling the US, and hadn’t been home in weeks. I sat there, eating my bowl of chili.  As wonderful as the trip has been, I started to miss home. In my reflections. I counted my blessings. Home was good. Except one thing, I had a sense of dread when I thought about church. My chest would go tight. And my body felt shaky. I craved Jesus. I craved worship. I craved devotion. Being in God’s creation,...

If Your Happy and You Know it Clap Your Hands....

Alright y'all, I need to post an actual blog post.  It's been awhile.I guess I have said " writers block".  Everytime I've sat down to blog, I've gotten this nasty attitude, like I just want to rant and complain.  I'm not a fan of giving a bad mood more than it deserves or letting people get on my nerves enough that it bleeds in my blog in the most passive-aggressive way possible.  So I won't go there this time.  Focusing on what I'm thankful for has been such a great practice, and has helped me avoid the above.  So here goes nothing.....I'll update a little bit on everthing I suppose.... Finally, life is beginning to slow down.I am so appreciative of the fact that the moving/settling in process is over ( only to do it all again in T minus 5 months....) In theory, there should be a big hole where our next house will be soon. For some reason I doubt that they will break ground this week, but I would be happy if they did...I'm stressed and ...
