The Time When I Almost Flung a 5-Year-Old Across the Room by Her Stupid Blonde Pigtails.

Ya, you read that right.

I had violent thoughts toward a young child today.

It was all Ally-Mcbeal-Hallucinations in my mind.

For a visual.  This is what I had in mind for this little blonde bitch child.

Let's set the scene, shall we:

I was at the YMCA picking up my kid after a good 500 calorie burn--gabbing it up with a fellow mom in the child watch area.  I am watching my child move about the room, playing with toys when I see her approach two older girls sitting cross-legged reading a book.  Haley stands before them looking at the book they were looking at too.

BB: (Snotty voice-to Haley)  Ahh What are you looking at?  What do you want?

Hearing this I slowly move over to Haley to remove her away from this little brat.

BB: Go away, leave us alone.

At this point, I am staring down this little brat with my meanest-momma-glare.  I mean, this was a serious mean mommy look.  While I am picking Haley up to move her away from this girl; she says to the other girl (who has remained silent the entire time...smart girl)

BB: Come on, let go set at a table, these people are annoying me.

Grrr.

I wanted to find her mother and slap her mother for having such a bratty child.

No one, talks to my baby like that. (And how disrespectful to an adult.  It is one thing to be a little witch to a peer, but to speak that way towards an adult...no way)

But...in that moment, the 5-year-old taught me a lesson.  Oddly.  Some people are just mean.  For no good reason.  She was simply a little brat.  She could grow up to be the sweetest young lady ever, for all I know.  But in that moment, she was simply not a nice person.  It wasn't out of jealousy or competitiveness or whatever physco-bable-fruadian theory people like to come up with to rationalize bad people doing bad things.  She was simply mean.  And--that doesn't change.  Little bitches, grow up to be big bitches and that is just a sad simple fact of life.  Some people just suck.

...and this is why I love ya! You make me laugh with some of these posts!
I think, when I run into these little b's all grown up, I still want to slap their mothers! Because somehow I still manage to psycho-babble it all back to the mamma that raised her daughter up that way.
Thank God I had 4 sons and a step daughter to humble my inner priss (I think, anyways) before the princess joined our family. Lord knows, I'd of raised a little b* ;)
I admit, sometimes my dear husband makes me step back a moment to realize I still do sometimes treat her in ways that encourage her to be a spoiled lil' brat.
But only sometimes :)
Thanks for another awesome post!

Fruit & Root Connection: Tangled Up

Certainly, I've expressed my aversion to hyper-spiritualized language before. It often feels contrived, lacking authenticity—a facade of piety. Perhaps it's projection. Maybe jealousy. Or it could stem from a sense of disillusionment with the Christian community. But every so often, amidst the noise, a truth resonates deeply. "There is a root and fruit connection between heart and behavior. People and situations do not determine our behavior; these things provide an occasion where our behavior reveals our hearts." - Instruments in the Redeemer's Hands I've been navigating through my anger, confronting myself in the mirror. What does this anger unveil about my own heart? Surely, they aren't as enraged with me. In fact, they probably don't spare me a second thought. If anything, they—as sincerely as they can muster—bemoan my status as an apostate. So pitiful. My fruit is anger. And too often, I'm tempted to point fingers elsewhere as the source of my...

Never Say When

At some point in my journey, I forgot that church leaders are flawed humans too. I have a tendency to overly respect authority for the sake of their position. I assumed, being a pastor meant that there is some how a higher spiritual connection. Consequently, I would turn off my own discernment in favor for whatever I was being instructed to do by our church leader. The person I have grown to distrust the most and the person I betrayed the most was myself.  Examples: Early in our journey, we had a small group. For the most part, I LOVED small group nights. Until we had a change of seasons. I had just had my third baby. We were living in a rental property while renovating another home ourselves. I was working on leading our developing children's ministry and feeling over my head. Ian worked afternoons so either small group would take one of only two family nights or would be when he was working, leaving me to attend alone most of the time. Our small group had roughly 10-15 small chil...

Bucket List

It's the final countdown.... Enter Europe: I hope that got your blood pumping, because I danced around my bedroom to this video. We are talking 9 weeks people.  Give or take what baby decides.  But we are on the final countdown.  The home stretch.  The grand finale. And I am ready to EMBRACE and not rush these last few weeks.  Whiny pregnant women are annoying.  And I have had a rough go at it.  I've been all....."waaaaaa progesterone", "waaaaa placenta previa", "waaaaa stress/anxiety".  And it is about time that I embrace my lovely lady bumps and breath.  Because this thing is happening.  And everything, will likely be just fine.  No more placenta issues.  I am on track for a typical, end of pregnancy.  Baby looks good. So.  In my journey in deciding to embrace these final weeks, I have created myself a "bucket list/ to do list" Before Baby:  Around the House Clean and organize storage Cle...
