Oh man...I am totally not good with keeping up with my blog recently. Must be the whole "mom" thing.
The last two weeks Ian and I have had two weddings to attend...along with our little guest of honor, Haley Michelle.
The first wedding was a little brutal. Ian's knee injury was very fresh and he was still on crutches (on a side note the MRI showed that he has a torn ACL, Meniscus, and cartilage., surgery is somewhere in the near future-however he is walking without crutches, and getting around OKAY). Anyways, Haley was pretty much awake the whole time. She didn't really fuss at all, just awake. But it was so much for me to juggle carrying everything and such. Then at one point. I had to change her in the bathroom. No changing table, so I was trying to change her on the bathroom sink as her head is falling into the sink, she decides to continue pooing all over as soon as I took off her diaper (wasn't quick enough with diaper no. 2). Did I mention I only knew the bride and groom at this beautifully, super fancy wedding. I was keeping it classy while looking like the worlds worst mom. We left before cake was even served. That's how you know your parents.
Wedding number two was FABULOUS. I guess Haley was making up for the poo incident the week before. She slept through the ENTIRE thing. All of our friends were there. The whole wedding in general was very cool. Ian and I had a fantastic time without having to feel like a parent the whole time.
Not that feeling like a parent is a bad thing. Being a parent is an amazing thing. But I am learning more and more that there are these moments where you know life will never be the same again. Out with the "old" fun and in with the "new" fun. It is nice to have those fleeting moments where the baby isn't crying, or needing to be fed, or needing to be changed; where Ian and I get to be Ian and I and not Haley's Mom and Dad. Those are special, yet few moments between a husband and wife that are also new parents. Trying to find the appropriate balance is a bit of a challenge.
So thanks Haley, for allowing Ian and I to have a fantastic Friday night at the wedding. We needed that.
Anyways, Haley just finished eating so it is back to bed with the both of us.
Another feeling like a parent moment. When I sneak in my blogging while nursing my child at 3 a.m. Who knew I could type so well one-handed.
