A Successful Shopping Trip

On this beautiful Good Friday, my husband and I decided to do a little shopping.  I have been searching for nursing bras.  Not the most exciting thing to go shopping for, but we finally had some success at JCPenny.  Buy-one-get-one-half-off makes for one happy pregnant woman.

Then we went to check out.  I guess they were running a coupon, spend $50 and get $10 off.  With my two nursing bras, my total was $40.00 so if I were to go pick out something for $10 I would basically get that item for free.

Let me back track.  I am queen of cheap shoes.  In the winter, I generally rock flats.  I usually get my flats from Target on clearance, and I never spend more then $10/$15.  And for some reason, I will wear those shoes until I completely wear holes through them.  Then in the summer, I rock Old Navy's cheap rubber flip flops...one brown pair, and one black pair.  I'm not sure why, I have never been a huge shoe girl.  I can't wear heals because then I end up looking like an amazon stripper (probably a hang-up I acquired from many years of being teased for being so tall; since then I have embraced that tall is hot, so who cares---but heals...I don't know I just can't go there) So then I started wearing flats.  And for some reason, cheap flats don't tend to wear blisters on my feet like more expensive flats do.

Anyways, so when I realized I could basically get something for $10 for free, the first thing that popped in my head was CHEAP SHOES...score!  I started realizing I had a cheap shoe problem when I started shopping at JCPenny.  JCPenny has a shoe section, then in another area they have a cheap shoe section (flops and flats).  So I immediately head to my cheap shoe section.  I couldn't find any flats that blew my mind so I started looking through the flops.  Now, I can't seem to bring myself to pay more than $2.50 for a pair of flops because the fancy flops tend to fall apart quickly, and my Old Navy ones are usually perfectly fine.     But we are talking a free $10.00 so why not splurge a little?  I found a pair that I fell in love with!

I don't feel like the picture does them justice.  But I think they are adorable.  They had some in black, but they didn't have any in my size..boo, so I went with my second choice--brown.  I also have a Beauty Brands gift card burning a hole in my pocket, so I might have to go get myself a cute pedicure so my toes and feet will be more on the same level with my expensive $10--but FREE flip-flops.

I have to add one more thing.  Pregnant women are famous for complaining about...well everything.  And sometimes it is good to stop and count our blessings.  So far, no swollen feet.  So I will rock these flops with pride, as my feet are about the only skinny thing left on my body.  Another blessing to count, at least after baby comes, we will get our moneys worth out of that YMCA gym membership!

Fruit & Root Connection: Tangled Up

Certainly, I've expressed my aversion to hyper-spiritualized language before. It often feels contrived, lacking authenticity—a facade of piety. Perhaps it's projection. Maybe jealousy. Or it could stem from a sense of disillusionment with the Christian community. But every so often, amidst the noise, a truth resonates deeply. "There is a root and fruit connection between heart and behavior. People and situations do not determine our behavior; these things provide an occasion where our behavior reveals our hearts." - Instruments in the Redeemer's Hands I've been navigating through my anger, confronting myself in the mirror. What does this anger unveil about my own heart? Surely, they aren't as enraged with me. In fact, they probably don't spare me a second thought. If anything, they—as sincerely as they can muster—bemoan my status as an apostate. So pitiful. My fruit is anger. And too often, I'm tempted to point fingers elsewhere as the source of my...

If Your Happy and You Know it Clap Your Hands....

Alright y'all, I need to post an actual blog post.  It's been awhile.I guess I have said " writers block".  Everytime I've sat down to blog, I've gotten this nasty attitude, like I just want to rant and complain.  I'm not a fan of giving a bad mood more than it deserves or letting people get on my nerves enough that it bleeds in my blog in the most passive-aggressive way possible.  So I won't go there this time.  Focusing on what I'm thankful for has been such a great practice, and has helped me avoid the above.  So here goes nothing.....I'll update a little bit on everthing I suppose.... Finally, life is beginning to slow down.I am so appreciative of the fact that the moving/settling in process is over ( only to do it all again in T minus 5 months....) In theory, there should be a big hole where our next house will be soon. For some reason I doubt that they will break ground this week, but I would be happy if they did...I'm stressed and ...

Never Say When

At some point in my journey, I forgot that church leaders are flawed humans too. I have a tendency to overly respect authority for the sake of their position. I assumed, being a pastor meant that there is some how a higher spiritual connection. Consequently, I would turn off my own discernment in favor for whatever I was being instructed to do by our church leader. The person I have grown to distrust the most and the person I betrayed the most was myself.  Examples: Early in our journey, we had a small group. For the most part, I LOVED small group nights. Until we had a change of seasons. I had just had my third baby. We were living in a rental property while renovating another home ourselves. I was working on leading our developing children's ministry and feeling over my head. Ian worked afternoons so either small group would take one of only two family nights or would be when he was working, leaving me to attend alone most of the time. Our small group had roughly 10-15 small chil...
